PRESERVING ALBERTA HISTORY

The Hanna Roundhouse Society is a non-profit registered society who received Provincial Historic Resource designation for the 1913 Canadian Northern Railway Roundhouse, receiving our plaque August 8, 2015.

We have been working towards the preservation, conservation & restoration of this historic site since 2009.  In Sept 2013 we were able to purchase the roundhouse property, this included the property, building, the 1942 turntable & pit, & the concrete foundation where the water tower once stood on 8.96 acres on the south edge of the Town of Hanna.

July 2014, the Hanna Roundhouse Society received grant funds from the Alberta Historical Resources Foundation (AHRF) to help fund the Assessment of the 10 steam engine bay roundhouse with attached boiler room.  November 2015 saw the completion of the 1st phase of our restoration with the stabilization of the boiler roof & small repairs again with matching grant funds AHRF.

We are only able to proceed with restoration work on this historic Resource in Hanna with funds raised, or donated.  If you are interested in helping preserve a part of southeast

Alberta's amazing railroad history, please check us out at  www.hannaroundhouse.com or on our Facebook page:  Hanna Roundhouse Society.
